El Capitan’s is a sausage place located in Bellingham, WA. It’s known amongst the college students in town as THE place to go for post night out grub. The restaurant is pirate themed and is known for their specialty dogs and endless toppings.
The goal for this website was to emulate the laidback, silliness of El Capitan’s, while still providing a seamless, elevated experience for users.
I illustrated a new skull logo that still maintained the fun, nautical essence, but looks clean and professional compared to the original one. Limiting the color palette was an easy way to simplify the site, but by using bold, bright colors, it doesn’t take away from the user experience.
By leaning into the quirk and not abandoning the basics this website uses “anti-design” rhetoric to not take itself too seriously.
